The latest Brick Meets Click Grocery Shopper Survey sponsored by Mercatus indicated that grocery shoppers were more active online in February than ever before. More than 80 million households placed one or more orders digitally – a record high – as the online grocery segment in the U.S. reached $10.3 billion in sales for the month.

February also marked the seventh consecutive month that sales exceeded $9.5 billion and the ninth consecutive month of year over year sales growth.

“We are just over six months into eGrocery’s current growth curve, fueled by aggressive offers to lock in customers for at least 12 months,” said David Bishop of Brick Meets Click.

Grocery delivery, which grew more than 45% year over year with $4.5 billion in sales, was the main driver for the positive growth. Ship-to-home sales and grocery pickup also saw gains in February compared to the same month a year ago.

Supermarkets and mass retailers experienced year over year gains in monthly active users and average order values, and reported improvements in repeat intent rates related to delivery and pickup services.
