Online grocery sales in the U.S. reached $11.6 billion in October, a 10.5% increase over October of 2024, according to the latest Brick Meets Click Grocery Shopping Survey, sponsored by Mercatus.
The number of households buying groceries online in October climbed to 83.3 million, a 13% year over year increase and a new record. The survey found gains across all methods – Delivery, Pickup, Ship-to-Home – with Pickup reaching an all-time high in active users.
Online grocery’s share of total weekly grocery spending increased to 16.3% in October, up 1.1% from a year earlier.
“Customers choose how the receive their online grocery orders based on many factors, including cost and convenience – and the impact of Amazon’s same-day grocery service, which offers a lower-cost alternative, is becoming visible,” said David Bishop, a partner at Brick Meets Click.
