Dollar General Market opens in Delaware’s smallest town

David Goodman | Aug 05, 2025 |

Dollar General Market opened last week in Hartly, DE, the state’s smallest incorporated town. The market will employ 10 to 15 workers; the entire town has 78 people, according to reports.

The location of the new store is across the street from a Family Dollar that opened before Covid. Unlike Family Dollar, DG Market offers fresh meat and produce.

The nearest grocery store is about 10 miles away in Dover.

DG Markets, which range from 8,500 to 16,000 square feet, are larger than standard Dollar General stores, which are typically about 7,500 square feet.
