Amazon plans to expand rapid delivery, triple its delivery network

Amazon announced yesterday that tens of millions of households from more than 4,000 smaller communities and cities will have access to same-day and next-day delivery by the end of the year.

According to Amazon, in cities where it currently offers rapid delivery, items delivered by no later than the next day have increased by more than 30%. The company added that its rapid delivery of groceries and household goods helped to grow those segments in the first quarter of 2025 at twice the speed of other categories like electronics.

To facilitate faster deliveries, Amazon plans to invest $4 billion in the next 18 months to triple the size of its delivery network. In addition, it plans to convert rural delivery stations into hybrid hubs for inventory storage and sites for preparing packages for delivery.

Amazon said it recently eclipsed $100 billion in gross grocery sales from its online portal (not including sales from Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh).
