Aldi said last week that it plans to open more than 180 U.S. stores by the end of the year, which would bring the company’s American store count to nearly 2,800. Aldi has previously stated that it’s goal is to have 3,200 stores by the end of 2028.
“One in three U.S. households shopped at Aldi this past year,” according to CEO Atty McGrath. “In 2026 we’re focused on making it easier for customers to shop our aisles first.”
Aldi plans to enter Maine later this year, and once it does the discount grocer will have locations in 40 states. More than 50 new stores and a distribution center are planned for Colorado, and 10 new stores are slated for Arizona.
In the Southeast, the company plans to continue converting locations acquired from Southeastern Grocers in 2024. About 90 stores have already been converted, with 80 more expected this year.
Aldi said it expects the total spend between 2024 and 2028 to be $9 billion for new stores, a strengthened supply chain, and digital platform upgrades.
